40 years of women in SSBC

As the first women undergraduates entered Sidney Sussex College in 1976, the Boat Club similarly opened its doors to female rowers. Patricia Brown became the first ever female cox for Sidney Sussex Boat Club when she joined as a graduate student in 1975; women’s IVs for Sidney soon after hit the water and raced in the Lent and May Bumps. 40 years on, we aim to celebrate women in the Boat Club, and in our 2017 the 180th birthday of SSBC gives us further reason to invite all Sidney rowing alumni to our Alumni Dinner on Saturday 21st January 2017. The pictures below are from the SSBC archives which show a variety of boats, rowers, and races from across the years. Our archives are sadly incomplete, often missing dates and names so if you recognise yourself or any of your peers in one of these photos then please contact us at alumni-officer@ssbc.org.uk as we would love to know more about the history of SSBC!
