Open Days
Attending a Sidney Open Day is undoubtedly the best way to find out more about the College. Open Days include informal group sessions, where the Admissions staff will tell you about the College and answer your questions, a meeting with the Director of Studies in your chosen subject, where you can learn more about your course and its tuition, and plenty of opportunity to meet our current undergraduates - the people best placed to answer many of your questions about Cambridge and Sidney.
The aim of our Open Days is twofold: to introduce you to life and learning at both Sidney and Cambridge, and to provide you with the key information about courses and admissions that you need in advance of applying here. Before you come to meet our admissions staff and Directors of Studies, you may find it useful to read the University's Undergraduate Prospectus (which all schools and colleges should have, and which is available online at http://www.cam.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/);
Sidney's own prospectus may be picked up on the day, and is online at www.sid.cam.ac.uk/admiss/ugrad/ugrad.html.
The timetables can be found here for both general Open Days covering all subjects and Open Days with a focus on Mathematics.
Sidney's forthcoming Open Day dates are as follows:
Please note that constraints of time do not permit us to acknowledge receipt of bookings; you will only hear from us if we are unable to meet your requirements.
Each Open Day includes time for you to have an appointment with one Director of Studies only, and therefore it is important that you let us know which one subject you hope to read at Cambridge. We regret that we cannot ordinarily make multiple appointments, so if you do need to talk to more than one Director of Studies during your visit, please contact us well in advance.
Our Open Days are intended to dovetail with University Open Day provision as follows:
Details of University and other College open days are available at http://www.cam.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/opendays/. Please note, however, that it is only necessary to attend ONE Cambridge College Open Day as the programmes will be very similar. Please do NOT book for more than one College Open Day on the same date.
The College will also be open for informal visits during the University Wide Open Days, for which no booking is required. Further details regarding opening times will be available during the spring.
Admissions staff and students will be on hand during these times to show you around and to answer any questions you may have.
If you have to travel a very long distance to Sidney, we may be able to provide you with overnight accommodation within the College, which must be booked in advance. If you do require this, please complete the relevant section of the booking forms. If you do not hear from us to the contrary, we will be able to meet your request for accommodation. Alternative accommodation is available at Cambridge Youth Hostel (01223 354601), and Cambridge Tourist Information Centre (01223 322640) can provide details of local hotels and guesthouses. Travel information regarding how to get to Sidney may be found online here.
While we very much welcome all potential Cambridge applicants and their teachers to our Open Days, we regret that constraints of space mean that places for each day are limited and we must, therefore, prioritise places for students and teachers over parents. For the same reason, we regret that we cannot provide parents with overnight accommodation. Parents are, of course, welcome to accompany students to Cambridge. If, on the day, there is any spare space in the sessions, we would be delighted for them to join us; but it is safest to assume that this will not be the case.
