Virtual Tour - South Court
South Court
The South Court, one of the main cycle parking areas, is dominated by X, Y and Z staircases, where mainly 3rd year undergraduates live as well as some of the Fellows. Sussex House can be access via a footbridge through this building, which was built in the early 1930s.
Chapel
The Chapel forms a lively part of the Sidney community. There are regular services including Choral Evensong sung by the Chapel Choir on Friday and Sunday evenings during Full Term and a service of Holy Communion on Sunday mornings. The excellent acoustics in the Chapel mean that it is in frequent use for music practice, concerts and theatrical performances. It is also an excellent place to simply retreat to and escape the business of Cambridge life. The Pastoral Dean, Revd Dr Peter Waddell (pastoral.dean@sid.cam.ac.uk) is also a member of the Sidney Pastoral Team.
Library
Sidney has two libraries on site: the Richard Powell Library, which is intended for use mainly by undergraduate students, and the Muniment Room. The Richard Powell Library is situated on the first two floors of Garden Court and is designed to supplement the Faculty and University Libraries. It was expanded and refurbished in 1992-3, and covers all subjects taught at Tripos level. The library and adjacent Computer Suite are designed to provide a quiet and comfortable place to work and are open 24 hours a day. Books may be borrowed from the library for private study.
Muniment Room
The Muniment Room, which is maintained by the Archivist, Mr Nicholas Rogers (archivist@sid.cam.ac.uk), is the second (and smaller) of the two libraries at Sidney.
Mong Building
The Mong Building was opened in 1996 by The Queen as part of the College's 400th anniversary celebrations. It is the main lecture theatre in Sidney with full audio-visual facilities and air conditioning. It is also used for dinners, seating up to 90 people, and concerts. Full details on the college's conference facilities can be found online in the Conferences section.
Garden Court
The Garden Court lies behind the Mong Building. As well as the Library and undergraduate accomodation, it also contains the Housekeeper's office and the Conference Manager's office.
Chapel Court
The Chapel Court is one of the two main courtyards which greet visitors upon arrival at Sidney. It is dominated by the entrance to the Chapel which is underneath the College Clock. It also contains the Junior Combination Room and is one of the main meeting points at the heart of the College.
