Pastoral Adviser

Sidney Sussex College is seeking an experienced pastoral worker/counsellor to join the team responsible for student welfare. This is a permanent part time post and will average a 50% FTE (full time equivalent) contract across the calendar year, working more hours during term time and correspondingly fewer out of term time.  Reporting to the Senior Tutor, the Pastoral Adviser will work collaboratively with the other officers in the pastoral team, including two Pastoral Leads, the Pastoral Tutor (also the College’s Chaplain) and the College Nurse to provide effective pastoral support for College students.

The salary for this post is paid on a range; points 47 - 51 of the University’s single salary spine, which currently equates to £37,706 - £42,418 FTE. Therefore the actual salary for this post, pro rata is £18,853 - £21,209 pa.  Progression through the range is discretionary. This post is pensionable under the University’s attractive contributory pension scheme and other benefits include free lunches when on duty, subsidised membership of the College gym, and access to childcare voucher and cycle to work schemes.

As well as being available to support individual students through regular drop-in surgeries and by individual appointment, the Pastoral Adviser will develop and apply strategies to engage with students through group activities promoting well-being and resilience. The role may involve some work in the evening and includes an overnight on call duty commitment during term time.
