Matthew Ireland is an External Director of Studies in Computer Science.

Matthew arranges Computer Science supervisions for the College, co-ordinates and mentors the Computer Science talks and discussion evenings, and does a substantial amount of teaching across all three years of the Tripos.

Outside of teaching, Matthew works on the design and implementation of electronic test and measurement equipment (current project: writing software for high-precision timing using GPS). In the past he has worked in the field of micromanufacturing, using computer vision for high-speed measurement during the manufacturing process. Matthew has side interests in machine learning for the automated composition and analysis of music, and in the history of information.

As the Director of Studies in Computer Science, Matthew oversees the overall academic progress of the Sidney Computer Scientists, arranging their College supervision schedules, and acting as their first point of contact. As a College Teaching Associate, Matthew also teaches various Computer Science supervisions across the year groups.
