    'On Feb: 14th, 1916 he went forward with his guns in a counter-attack near Ypres. He was seen to mount his gun 20 yards from the enemy, and to enfilade their trench: the two men with him were killed & the gun was noticed to cease firing. The counter-attack was unsuccessful & a machine-gun was seen on the next day in the position where he mounted his gun, with an officer still holding the traversing handles , having been killed at his post (Marlborough Roll of Honour)
